To try and cut down hours of endless Googling, here are a few sites that may help you out as you search for the elusive bit of information to get you through the MDS.
Share any new sites that may be useful to others here and i’ll add them.
Marathon Des Sables (main site)
This is the main site of the MDS organisers. This has all the basic info you need about the MDS.
Marathon Des Sables (UK site)
This site is run by More Than Running Ltd who are the official representative for entrants from the UK and Ireland. Good for kit lists and additional resources to prepare.
I Run Far
This is a good site for general training tips and kit reviews (not all specific to MDS). I found a good post on food prep for MDS. It’s a bit dated, but still stacks up.
Ultra Coach
This is the site for Elisabet Barnes who has won the MDS and offers coaching and advice to those who are entering. Highly recommended.
Ian Corless
This site is run by Ian Corless, a photographer who specialises in ultra events. If you want your MDS to be captured with some amazing pictures for posterity, he’s your man. The site also has lots of tips and articles that will help you prepare.
Ultra Running Magazine
Lots of good general ultra articles in here, but search for MDS specific ones and you’ll find lots of tips.
MDS Podcast
This is the go to podcast for the MDS. It was created by Sean Clark who completed the MDS and brings in lots of guest speakers covering all elements of the race. Worth a listen on your long training runs.
MyRaceKit
This should be your starting point for most kit. They won’t have everything, but give them a call first to check. They do a lot of the mandatory kit in pre made packs.
Base Camp Foods
I sourced food to test from multiple sites, but base Camp Food had the biggest range.
Tactical Food Pack
I picked this company up from a random podcast and found their stuff to be a lot better than most.
